Immediately after the disaster
- Check yourself for any injuries
- Check the people around you, make sure they are okay (use first aid if necessary)
- Evacuate if it is safe to do so, check for structural damage of stairwells if you need to use these to evacuate
- In an earthquake, go to higher ground due to the serious risk of tsunami
- In a tsunami, stay put in higher areas
Once the disaster has settled; put your emergency plans in place!
- Meet with your mates and loved ones as planned
- If phone networks are still working, send text messages as calling people may clog up the networks
- If you stay home if it is safe to do so, turn off water and gas supply if there is a leak
- Make sure your supplies are accessible if you need to live outside.
